Story - Time Language Arts Activity Book Help

MOTHERS' DAY.....WOW.....SO PROUD OF OUR ANGELS

What a wonderful time we had last week - all the children's practice and hard work really paid off. I hope that it made all mothers and fathers and grandparents ....and everyone actually feel very special - I was very proud of them and of how well they did in the show & just watching them brought smiles and some sweet tears to all of us I'm sure.

Story - Time “Herman the Helper”

This story is about a young octopus that lives in the Ocean and he spends all his time helping everyone – even those who should be his enemies. He is an extremely kind and loving creature.
The story shows us that it is always good to be kind and to be helpful – to all.
The story also shows us some of the different kinds of animals (mammals and fish) that live in the ocean.

Try to let your child watch programs on the Earth's Oceans & life within it. The variety of life is emense.
I went on the net to Google and Bing and typed in Ocean Life and up came sooooooo many options of material that I didn't know what to choose - from information sites to games.....

Have Fun.

SUPPLIES

I hope you found listed on the newsletter the few supplies that we need for this semester. If you have any questions about it please e-mail me.

Thank-you

Story - Time Language Arts Activity Book Help

HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY TO ALL

On the Eve of our big day, let's take a moment to remember Mothers everywhere. Everybody - Everywhere has, or has had a mother....
"Mothers Give Unconditionally.." - it's as simple as that - and they give us SO MUCH. I think we should be Grateful and Thankful for them - not just tomorrow but for a moment every day remember just how lucky we are, and thank God.

Story Time
Due to getting ready for tomorrow's celebration we did not have time to read last week's story , "The Little Red Hen" We will be coming back to it.
This week our theme is Zoo Animals. Our story is:

“My Mother is Mine”

This story gives us some descriptions of different animals’ characters. For example, the bear cub says about its mother; “My mother is brave.” The wolf cub says; “My mother sings high and sweet”. The fish says its mother is pretty…. The lamb says its mother is soft. Each baby animal has something nice to say about its mother. The kitten notes that its mother still loves it even when it misbehaves!
All of these characteristics can be said about all mothers…..animal and human too. Everyone’s own mother is special to them - the last lines of the story emphasize this by saying;
“My mother is special, my mother is fine.
My mother, my mother, my mother is mine”.

It fits well with our Celebration.

Story Time

Another story we will be reading is called: "Dear Zoo" - in this a young child wants a pet animal to keep and live with them at home. - so he writes to the Zoo to send him a pet. The Zoo sends some very unsuitable animals to the boy - but if they asre unsuitable he sends the animals back - then the Zoo sends another - sent back - sends another.... until finally a cute puppy dog is sent and the boy finds him 'Just Perfect') and wants to keep it.

I hope you will enjoy the stories - and the Mothers' Day Celebration.

Story Time - Language Arts Activity Book help

Dear Parents - how are you all and your children - well I hope. There were quite a number of absences today at school - I hope it was just because of the weather....and wow was it hot today....where did spring go to?

Here's another summary of the stories from this week and the one we should be reading next week.I do hope that you find them helpful - let me know please.

Story Time – “I can’t get my turtle to move”

This story is about a young girl who lives in the countryside – she has a big garden (backyard) in which live many different animals, birds and insects. The story begins with her turtle, which no matter what the girl does the turtle just does not want to move. She tries many things – and shows us in comparison the other animals and how they really do as she tells them – but the turtle doesn’t move. As the girl shows us the different animals we count them – starting from 1 – 10.
At the end of the story the girl finally gets her turtle to move by offering it some lunch – a lettuce leaf…. She is very happy as are all the other animals.

This story shows us the different kinds of animals that can be found in some backyards (gardens or small farms). It also encourages the readers to count the animals on each page and the repetition of the phrase;”but I can’t get my turtle to move...” gets the children involved in the telling of the story.

Story Time – “The Little Red Hen” – a lesson in sharing the work so as to share the rewards.

In this story the little red hen is a hard worker who finds some seeds and wants to sow them and grow some wheat. She asks the other animals on the farm to help her with different tasks. The animals are far too lazy to help her; plant the seeds, cut the wheat when it has grown, take the wheat to the mill to be ground into flour or to help make the dough for the bread. However when the bread is cooked the animals want to help her eat it – but the hen says NO! “I did…by myself, and…by myself….and …by myself and now I’m going to eat it ALL BY MYSELF”

The hen feels that because she made all the effort and did all the work then she gets all of the bread. That’s quite right as the others were too lazy to help, so why should they share the bread! This is a good lesson for everyone to learn.

A very full and busy week lies ahead of us.... preparations for what looks to be a lovely show / activity day for mothers on Mothers' Day. The children are all working hard to help make the day a special one for their beloved mothers.

Details and invitations will be sent to you in the coming week (4).

Thank you for sending your child's display file, and the T2 report cards. For those haven't recieved then please...contact the school administration for details of how to get them
Have a great weekend.

For those who have been absent this week - your homework is to make sure that every page has been complety worked on. Finish the sheets please.

Story Time - Language Arts Activity book help

Dear parents,
Well we're well under way now - the first two weeks have flown by and we're all settled back into our school routine - let's hope that there will be no interruptions this term - it's so important to have continuity and stability for our little 'bundles of joy'.
I'm happy to see that most of you watched the power points as the children are understanding and picking up the material quickly - thank you for taking the time to show and explain the material to them.

STORY TIME - ‘Stories and More’ activity book – orange book

As parents I would like to keep you ‘in the picture’ as we say. Every week we read a new story that goes with that week’s theme. I would like to give you a basic idea of the stories.
I have compiled a summary of the different stories that will be read this term and will post them up each week here on my blog so that firstly you know which story your child is doing and so that you can understand and thus enrich the homework they have from the Stories and More activity book.

T3 Wk1 - “Traffic” a story about a little car making its way through the city and the countryside. The story introduces ‘giving directions’ for driving the car and the use of opposite words.

Directions ; go, turn, right, left,
into, out of, under, over….

Opposite words; empty - full / wide - narrow
big - little / inside – outside
near – far away / dark – light

Enrichment:
help your child try and practice these commands / directions when you are driving around the city together. Also practice saying the opposite words. (these can both be made into games which the children will enjoy more.)

Story Time – T3 Wk2 - “Little Quack” – having the courage to try something new

This story is about a family of ducklings and how their mother tells them it is time for them to leave the comfort and safety of their nest and get into the water – it’s their first time for going into the water and they are all afraid to do so.
So the mother duck gently encourages them to jump in ….”I know you can do it – you’re big now – too big for the nest – you’re brave …”
The ducklings muster up their courage and one by one get into the water – Little Quack is the smallest and the least brave (most afraid) but even he finally gets up his courage and jumps into the water.
After they have jumped in, each duck immediately feels proud of his achievement and says, “Look at me….look at me…I’m swimming….” They enjoy the water and playing in it.

This story encourages us to do new things and that when we believe we can do something (and especially when someone who loves us believes in us too), then we can do them. And then after we’ve been brave and done it then we can be proud of these achievements.

Remember that as your child is growing he / she is constantly facing new challenges which they are learning to do and meet. Always encourage your child to try new things (of course they must be age appropriate and attempted in a safe environment with adult supervision). Children need to be shown how to do things and then let them do it themselves -
The key is to encourage and praise their efforts - no matter how the results turn out - they will feel proud and confident in their new independence and abilities.

I do hope that these summaries will help and enrich your child's education and also their love of reading stories.

Have a great weekend and look out for our next newsletter - out soon.
