This is an annual event – every year near the end of term 4 we have this. Each homeroom class in our school chooses a country and for that week literally becomes it. Well, we do our best to by: decorating the classroom / displaying information about it / learning about the people & their cultures and traditions.
On one day we have a day of dressing in either traditional clothes of our chosen country or in colors of the flag.
With so many different countries on display walking around the school during this week feels like we are travelling across the world.
As we are already KG1 Africa we have chosen a country from this continent. It will be Kenya. I am doing some research for the class, and to give you more information: Flag – people – clothes & food etc.
If anyone has any information they would like to share – has visited Kenya – has photos that we could use (and return) I would appreciate it.
Story Time
Every week we read a new story that goes with the week’s theme. I would like to give you a basic idea of the stories. The story is related to the ‘Stories and More’ activity book – the orange book.
This week our theme is "Night & Day"
“How the Sky got its Stars”
***** Please note that we are very careful to make the children understand that this is just a story and that it was God that made everything and put each in its place in the world.
This story is a sweet explanation of how the stars got up into the sky. The different animals spend time sorting out where to put the mountains and seas and trees etc – all of them except the coyote (an animal similar to a wild dog). Whilst all the animals are asleep at night the coyote is awake and finds some shiny things which he can not find a place for (the stars). So he throws them up and away……only to discover that they look quite pretty where they end up – up in the night sky.
The story shows us things that can be seen in the night sky.
As the theme is also about Daytime - have a look at this link; the song "Mr Sun". We have been singing it this last week within the theme of The Weather.
